Metal Share

Metal Share

A monthly online meet‑up for makers who want to share knowledge, open doors, and strengthen the community.

Metal Share is a new project run by friend of the workshop Liv Garrod. It’s an online space for people working with metal, at any level, to connect, swap ideas, and support each other. The aim is simple: reduce gatekeeping, share resources, and make the industry more accessible.

Metal Share runs online on the first Wednesday of every month at 6pm.

What Metal Share Is About

Each session is an open, informal meet‑up where makers can talk honestly about their work, challenges, and questions. It’s a space to:

  • Share tips, techniques, and practical knowledge
  • Talk about tools, materials, suppliers, and problem‑solving
  • Connect with others who are learning or working in the field
  • Build a network that’s supportive rather than competitive
  • Make the industry feel less closed‑off and more collaborative

There’s no hierarchy and no pressure, just people helping each other out.

Why This Network Matters

Metalworking and fabrication can be difficult to break into, especially for people from marginalised backgrounds. Access to tools, training, and insider knowledge is often uneven.

Metal Share aims to shift that by:

  • Opening up information that’s usually hard to find
  • Creating a supportive community rather than a closed circle
  • Highlighting opportunities, workshops, and routes into the industry
  • Giving people a place to ask questions without judgement
  • Building a stronger foundation for those who are struggling to get started

It’s about making the industry fairer, more transparent, and more welcoming.

Who It’s For

Metal Share is open to anyone working with metal or interested in learning, from complete beginners to experienced fabricators. It’s especially aimed at people who feel underrepresented or overlooked in the industry, including women, LGBTQ+ makers, and those facing barriers to access.
